“T-BAR” tags, a great selection of products for instrumentation available at Aquamerik. Contact us if you wish for more information about our products.
Numbered from 0 to 100, these anchor tags work well with medium and small fish. They are applied with a tagging gun (TG) and are inserted below the dorsal fin. A larger end prevents slippage of the numbered shrink cover. Tags come in cartridges of 50 tags and can be used in a high-speed tagging operation.
How to use a “T-BAR” identification tag
These fish labels perfectly suit to aquaculture research and especially for genetics. By maintaining appropriate data, the labels can provide information on sex, age, genetic line, or produce dispersion models, etc. A proper installation of a label may require some practice, but by following the next method, it will be easier and safer. The goal is to place the label “hook” in the rays on the dorsal fin which are pointing towards the fish’s muscles. If you’re correct, you should feel the bones by fixing the label. To facilitate this, hold firmly the fish in swimming position and reduce their motion.
The fish in movement can damage the needle and cause injury to the user or fish. Using the tip of the needle, lift up a scale and insert the needle at the base (forward) of the anterior dorsal fin. Then hold the gun firmly against the body of the fish while pressing the handle. Slightly twist the pistol and remove the needle.
DO NOT RELEASE THE COMPRESSED HANDLE UNTIL THE NEEDLE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY TOOK OUT. Once removed, slowly release the handle and ensure that the next tag is positioned for labeling. Note: disease transmission can be a concern when tagging fish. To minimize this risk, disinfect the needle with rubbing alcohol, iodine or other disinfectant between each plant label.
